We have been looking for a reliable and fairly priced CPA for some time now and I can sadly say that Askey is not it. We expressed during our first meeting with them that we wanted to be able to ask questions and understand what was happening with our taxes. We were promised that this would be the case and were told that an individual return would start at $650. We understood that this was the starting price and even asked if it would be double if we had to file separately and were told that it wasn't likely. We were also told that there was a 4-6 week turn around time. Nearly 6 weeks after taking our taxes to Askey, we had barely heard anything. We initially met with Catherine Askey and she was not the same person that actually did our taxes. For that reason we had to send several e-mails reiterating information that we had already covered. We were then charged for that time even though we had already provided half of that information. Once we finally did get our taxes back nearly 8 weeks later, there were errors and things that were missed. We were also told that our original bill was going to be nearly $3,000 but they "kindly" knocked that down to $1,800 (when we got the bill it was practically $1,900). This included them charging us for their time during the initial client meeting which I have never had happen at any other firm. After going back and forth they did eventually fix our taxes, but refused to go over them with us without charging us more. They also kindly informed us that if these taxes in particular were audited that they would charge us more to fix any problems. We understood that our taxes were complicated this year which is why we sought help from a CPA. However, their prices are outrageous and do not meet the service that you are provided with. Needless to say, we will never be returning to Askey in the future.
