  My husband and I met with Rosalind from Guild Mortgage when looking to get a loan to purchase our first home. We came in at 22 years old with no experience and absolutely no knowledge on the home buying process. Rosalind was very sweet and pleasant however, I will never use Guild Mortgage for any future home buying needs and Im thankful I didnt end up going with them this time either. When we first approached them, they were concerned about our work history.. We had both recently changed careers (one year in) and they were requiring us to have 2 straight working years in the same position. I was a little taken back because all of the other lenders we spoke with didn't require a 2 year length.. I told this to Rosalind, to which she came back with an argumentive response that "all lenders require the same thing, shes sure of it" ...hmmm so anyways, she had us write special letters to underwriting explaining our employment situation and we were finally pre-approved. We were originally approved for $250,000 with a 3.5% rate. Then we were sent on our way to find a home, still very confused and lacking guidance. We figured things out, got a realtor and then fell in LOVE with a home that was listed at $309,900. I brought this information back to Guild Mortgage and asked her to re run the numbers and give me an idea of the monthly costs on this home. She then explained that the mortgage rates went up since the last time we spoke and the rate was now 4.2%!! This put everything around $2,000 monthly when we were originally quoted about $1,600 with the first rate! Mind you we literally found a home within a week so the mortgage rates had jumped that high in less than 10 days?.. I was so upset. I told my realtor what had happened and she recommended Mike Richardson from Bay Equity Home Loans. Im SO THANKFUL we found Mike! He reassured me that not all lenders require 2 years of employment history (told you so) and had us preapproved for the entire $309,900 within a day. Now here's the best part... he preapproved us for a 3.2% rate, which is way less than BOTH of Guild Mortgages rates. Not only that but he kindly locked in the rate for us (for free) up until our estimated close date. Wonder why Guild Mortgage never even MENTIONED locking rates? Fishy. Mike took the time to explain everything he possibly could and was very patient and kind our entire time working with him. I learned more from Mike within 10 minutes, than I did from Rosalind the entire 2 weeks I worked with her. It is now 2 weeks since we've closed on our new home and we still haven't even HEARD from Guild Mortgage, not since our original approval months ago. Not one email to check up on us, see how house hunting is going or offering further help in any way. If you want a supportive, caring, trustworthy lender who will beat anyone's rates as well as give you a lenders credit or anything else they can possibly do to land you in the home of your dreams, I suggest you look up Bay Equity Home Loans. Im soooo very happy in my new home!
