We currently lease a property that was managed by Harrell. They were very efficient with receiving payment for rent, but didn't care enough to respond to our emails during the sale of our property. Our building recently sold through a seperate realty company and our lease is up in a little over a week. Ive been waiting on a response explaining where to turn in my keys, options renewing my lease, or how to go about getting my security deposit. The only response I got told me from her best understanding, the building has sold and I'd be hearing from Midgette Realty. No response to my last attempt to reach her. Awesome customer service, can tell you guys really care about your tenants.

However, we had relayed the information and the listing/selling agency had assured us they would be in touch with you as we have had no contact with the potential buyer. Realizing that as a current tenant you need to make decisions for the coming year, we have tried to be prudent in sharing information as we have received it.

I would not recommend the long term rental dept at Harrell & Assoc to my worst enemy. I’ve rented homes with other companies on the OBX and always had a good experience until now. During our 4 months there I put up with discriminating remarks from Ms Tatem (the property manager) about me being a single mom during the application, showed up to a completely disgusting house that we were told was “professionally cleaned” and told “it is what it is”, multiple safety issues with doors that wouldn’t open or lock properly, floor that was coming up, and long screws sticking out of door frames. I was promised they’d be fixed but never were. I was told my viewing (before the lease was signed and I put a deposit down) was my “move in inspection” and I’d “accepted” its condition. The house was INFESTED with roaches. Not the occasional OBX “water bug”. I mean killing at least 12 a day. My kids were scared to turn the lights out and had multiple bugs crawl on them even after I had OBX pest control treat the house. She switched the water bill that I was responsible for from being mailed to the house to being mailed to her without telling me so I couldn't see what I was being billed for. We spent a 90 degree night with no AC with a 6 month old. Our sink pipes literally fell off the sink and flooded the floor. Then the hot water heater burst flooding our hall. I would have to contact her multiple times to get updates on repairs. I was finally able to break the lease. I was hounded for 3 days to return keys BEFORE the official end of my lease only to have the property manager flat out LIE to me about letting the new tenants in 5 days early. When I requested my prorated rent ($266) back since she let them in, she refused and even charged MY water deposit for the 5 days ($12) she let them in for. After speaking with NCREC and HUD, I will be filing complaints on Ms. Tatem. Please save yourself the money and headache by renting ANYWHERE else.
