      We built a Tortuga in Heron Landing and closed in April of 2020. After closing and living in the house, we are happy with the end result. Our neighborhood has kids that play outside almost every day. In just one month I have met most of my neighbors and we go for walks together a few times a week. I could not ask for a better neighborhood. How is the quality of the home? In the end, they built a quality home. We could not buy or build a home this size with this build grade, look and feel for the price. The home has automated lighting, automated premium garage door openers, automated air conditioning control, a ring doorbell and all of it is standard. The air conditioning has a fresh air intake and is efficient and so are the water heaters and appliances. How was the build? It was not easy but it was worth it. We had Blake Lindsey (Meritage director of sales) threaten to keep our deposit when we asked about options which we had paid for and were not getting . Thankfully their president, Steve Harding made things right. Our construction manager David Nelson was great about getting things done before we closed but he is no longer with the company..

      Meritage is all about the bottom dollar with their communities. They will promise things and not follow through. They have taken away amenities and raised HOA fees in their communities. I 100% do not reccomend using them as a builder and/or living in one of their communities. Proceed with extreme caution.
