  This is actually a much nicer campground than any in the valley. It is quiet and surrounded by woods, and some of the sites even have some privacy. The walk-in sites, as others have mentioned, are on a steep incline and we saw many people struggling to find a flat spot for their tent. One other huge inconvenience (no fault of Hodgdon, but of Yosemite's policies) was that we had to change sites three times because that's all we could get (one night per site), and then there was nowhere to leave our food because there was no communal bear box at the campground. Frustratingly, the sites we moved from were never occupied but we didn't know if someone might show up because they have no access to cancellations and MANY people don't show up to their site. I would recommend our first site, 19 which is a walk-in but is more private than some. 1 and 2 also looked good. The best part about this site is that it is well located for visiting both the valley and tuolumne meadows!

  The park itself is beautiful. But some of the campsites, ours included, were completely unusable. Our site was on a steep hill. Food and drinks just rolled right off the picnic table provided because the incline was too steep. Our camping chairs were unusable because we didn't have a flat surface. And we kept rolling off our air mattress in our tent for the same reason. Other sites I'm sure have flatter surfaces. But we would not return to this one.

  Very quiet and we'll maintained campground. Clean restrooms. No showers. 30 minutes from the valley floor, so a much more quiet setting. Many campsites are sloped and prone to flooding if the weather turns wet Fyi.
