  (Kathy or Cathy, not sure how she spells it) was a true gem! I had an issue where my paperwork was a couple weeks ahead of the District that I resigned from. I needed my VAC money to bridge me between jobs. I called, explained, was frustrated because I hadn’t had income in a month. Things were getting hairy. She said she’d reach out and contact the appropriate department and get back to me. Within the day she delivered. Went above and beyond. Extremely impressed and very thankful for her kindness and effort. Wow.

  I can't tell you how frustrated I am with customer service and the web site. Three times in a row the site won't accept any of my log in information. So three times in a row I have to reregister then wait for a letter from IMRF to log on. Then it happens a fourth time. And you can't email anyone unless you're logged in. Then everytime you call you can't get thru. Ridiculous, amazes me that the checks go out on time.

  IMRF only sees dollar signs, not people. They decided I need to pay over $6,400 of my money to them because they paid me while social security was supposed to. Unfortunately, social security has never paid me (social security claims I have to pay back money because they didn't stop their payments because apparently on top of fighting cancer, working full time, and receiving weekly chemo. I should have known they were overpaying me), and my IMRF benefits are going to be withheld for almost 6 months to repay myself. So, I have recurring Ovarian Cancer for the past 7 years and will receive no income for the next 6 months. I lost my car and now I'm going to lose the roof over my head. I hope IMRF treats it's employees and their families with the same neglect and inhumane treatment that they have showed me. This is one of the many reasons to not work or live in Illinois - if you need this pension plan, they'll screw you by taking away your money so you have no food, housing, etc. because you have to pay your own money back. No payment plans, and no understanding.
