  I have a few negative opinions however, this program has since saved my life. A few of the younger staff seem to hate their jobs. (Younger staff meaning, the ones who look like they just graduated college). I don’t want to mention names because perhaps they were just having an off month. I definitely think that if your doing this job just to get experience, act like you care and don’t come across annoyed to be working. Especially on weekends. Now that the negative is out of the way, positive vibes now. The food is much better than any other rehab. 3 meals a day plus sandwiches at night, I definitely gained a few pounds there. Gained weight for 4 weeks was much better than 4 weeks of making bad decisions. Leyla (can’t spell) is an amazing councilor. Her music groups are very inspirational. Her meditation sessions are amazing. She was not my councilor but she definitely left a positive impact on me. Chris the fun guy. Is absolutely the fun guy. That’s all I have to say there. Tom the volunteer brings so much knowledge and compassion as well. I felt that he empathized with everyone oppose to just “yesing” people. He also has amazing groups on working as a team. I mostly looked forward to his activities on Sundays. He taught me how to see the positive in me before the negative and to push myself to complete a difficult team task instead of quitting and drugging. I LOVED Dr Dueys lectures, he is extremely knowledgeable about the addiction. He stops to answer every question In as much detail as he can. After groups, he would stay and chat if someone had more questions. Carol in the cafeteria is such a kind hearted woman. She’s treats every person with such respect and understands we are in a vulnerable state of mind. All and all, I am extremely grateful for this facility and the volunteers and employees who go above and beyond to show addicts that this is beatable/livable. Thank you for noticing me and showing me the way.

  A facility that did not help. I called, and my parents called, and it was a poor experience. My father said you call them; they were rude and made me feel bad about my granddaughter. With the current opioid crisis, you would believe that facilities like Seafield would do their best to make a difference. I'm a mother searching with my daughter for help. The director and staff in Intake were rude and did not show any empathy. Addiction is a disease that causes the individual with the addiction and their family anxiety. Instead of offering a word of comfort based on their experience, they make you feel ashamed and angry. To work in addiction facilities, I believe that you need to know how to deal with situations. There is a need for compassion, patience, and understanding. I went on the SAMHSA website and pulled a couple from the list of competencies that are vital sensitivity, cultural awareness, effective communication skills, conflict management, and the ability to de-escalate. It's not easy dealing with addiction, so if you decide to take on the role, understand the factors of the disease. I'm finishing my Masters's in Healthcare Administration, which will be completed in August. The project I'm working on is Prescribing Opioid Practice for Chronic health conditions and Opioid Overdose deaths. The data I'm finding is so disheartening. Long Island is losing an estimated $22 million a day due to opioid addiction. Every person counts; not all will succeed at the back end or even on the front end; however, be part of the solution. Don't create more anxiety for the family. Be kind and talk as if your child is going through the disease. The ownership is on the person addicted; however, embracing the family, i.e., the mother, and grandparents, is essential.
