      My son was going with this lender for financing of a new home. After an unexplained rate increase, my son and his wife were encouraged by a financial planner to do their homework and shop around to make sure they were getting a fair deal. After finding a far better rate, my son kindly informed them (in writing) that he would not be doing business with them as they were able to get a better deal. A few weeks after a very short, one word, response from Newburg bank confirming receipt of cancellation of moving forward, my son was e-mailed a bill for an appraisal for the loan they were no longer going through with. Now my son is on the hook to pay for the appraisal. Sounds like sour grapes or incompetence? Support small business indeed, however, not at the expense of integrity and customer service.
