My realtor had me contact Paula to prequalify for a home loan. Paula went above and beyond to sort through my surprisingly complicated credit to get me my loan. Paula was a great problem solver. She never made me feel badly when things were complicated. She has a great attitude and was super helpful. She was genuinely excited for me when I got a house and made sure everything was ready to go. I really enjoyed working with her, and I have recommended her to two coworkers already.

I like Bill Barnett at Stearns Lending. My husband likes Bill, too. My father-in-law, my mother-in-law, my neighbors, my husband's co-worker Steve, and Steve's mom--everybody likes Bill. Bill is just a very likeable guy. All that being said, what you want in a mortgage broker isn't likeability, though that doesn't hurt. What you want is somebody who knows the market, will be honest with you about what you can afford, will let you know when it's a good time to refinance and tell you frankly when it isn't, and is readily accessible by phone and email. You want somebody you can trust as you enter into probably the largest purchase of your life. Bill has been all those things for us through a home purchase and multiple refinances--plus he runs a truly local business. And crunches numbers with alacrity!
