  BE AWARE OF THEIR APPROVAL PROCESS BEFORE APPLYING! "CREDIT HISTORY" NOT "CREDIT SCORE" Let me start with saying... I am VERY aware of how credit works, and that their are many different factors used to be determined acceptable by a company based on your credit file. Their all different company to company. I have spent the last 6 months learning and monitoring our credit while my husband and I look to purchase our first home. I tried to be smart and take out a personal loan to cover the cost of appliances instead of several store-credit lines. I knew every time I apply it impacts my score and didn't want to "needlessly" apply with a company who had criteria I knew we didn't meet. My credit score(s) are all three 640+ and we qualify for most of what we try for but with COVID-19 in 2020, and just the mistakes of being young and unaware of how credit really worked, my credit HISTORY is not terrible, but not great either. The most recent negative remark I have is in 2020 when I paid and closed my first and only credit card after it was more than 30 days late. Had to learn from that mistake. I called Universal and spoke with Amber on a Wednesday morning about 10 a.m. and asked her questions about their credit approval requirements, and approval process. "What do they base their approval on?" Her EXACT words to me were "We base it on your credit score, I cant give you any answers until we pull your credit." FALSE: THEY DO NOT BASE IT ON YOUR CREDIT SCORE, IT IS BASED ON CREDIT HISTORY, NOT THE SCORE ITSELF! Which had I known, I would have discussed my credit history with her a little more before applying. I knew my current score was strong but yes.. my credit history is a little rocky, Ill admit I had to learn how to work it! But then I didn't even get a call back once my application was rejected. I had to call Thursday to find out what was going on for myself. I spoke with Angela this time and she was nice on the phone until she told me I was not approved, then her entire demeanor changed. She was rude in the delivery of her information, and just not personable at all. They are supposed to be a company that HELPS people, in our very small town! I understand now why none of my friends have used them before! I am not upset I did not get approved, but at the way this business LIED and handled my application. It was very demeaning and unprofessional. So if your someone looking to rebuild your credit, or getting back on track, they will NOT help you! Angela will tell you their decision is credit HISTORY driven, Amber will tell you different but then of course as the customer, YOUR treated as the one in the wrong. Even if you have a good credit score now, your past will still haunt you with this company, so just be aware before you apply and negatively impact your score more... A good loan company will make you aware of all of this, the good and the bad BEFORE you take a chance, because they are there to help, not hurt you. HIGHLY RECOMMEND One Main Financial or Wagner financial in Winston Salem, NC. They were both super great companies to work with and made it happen for me when Universal finance didn't care too! There ARE loan company's who truly want to HELP you this just isn't one of them! Hope this helps save someone the time, and hard inquiry impact. <3
