Definitely worth the read…. I have bought and sold several homes, but this was by far the worse experience that I’ve ever had as far as a VA loan. My husband is a business owner and this was a jumbo loan. Because of this, it’s common for it to be complicated. With this also being a VA loan, they require far more information than other type of deals. Kelly, my mortgage lender left for vacation near the tail end of our deal. There was no way to reach her to solve the underwriter’s request since she was out of the country. Instead they put Travis on the deal who explained that I could wait until my original loan officer was back (THE MONDAY BEFORE CLOSING). I reached out to another lender, Palmetto State Home Mortgage. They were able to get the deal done in 15 days. This allowed me to keep my original closing date. Not only that, but the interest rate was MUCH lower (and I didn’t have to pay 1 or 2% of a jumbo loan to buy down the rate. Oh, and the closing costs were substantially less than Veterans United.
