I stopped in the drive thru today to deposit a check. Staff stated they could not help me because they required an electronic signature. My written signature would have worked but they choose not to accept it! So why not provide a device at the window to record my electronic signature? That would have been the customer service oriented approach! They would not do that. Very poor customer service!! I tried to get service today 1/22/2022 and see they are not open to the public on Saturday. Another display of not providing excellent customer service!

(2 Replies) Hi Tony, There are certain transactions that do require an electronic signature and/or for the person to come into the building. Namely, when someone is not a member of ASCU and they are doing a shared branching transaction. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we, like most other credit unions, require an electronic signature in that case. I'm unaware of other banks or credit unions that offer electronic signature pads in their drive thrus, but we will definitely check into it for the future. (Latest reply 1/25/2022) We are sorry, Tony, that you did not make note of our business hours during your last visit. We, like most other businesses, are not open 24/7. Our hours are stated on our building, on our website www.ascu.org/locations and on Google Maps, which you are using to write your reviews. I just wanted to take the opportunity to clarify what it is we do at American Southwest Credit Union. We provide checking & savings accounts, IRAs, loans, business accounts and a host of other banking products and services showcased on our website. However, we are not a bank. We are a not-for-profit financial co-op. Our members do not pay ATM fees when they use our ATMs or the AllPoint ATMs. Members also have the option to go to any of our shared branching partners for banking services if they are not in town or if our hours do not suit the member's needs. Because we are a co-op, we do not make profits for shareholders like banks do. Our members are our owners and our goal is to serve them with the best financial products and services we can. Our savings dividends are generally higher than other financial institutions. In addition, because we are not-for profit, this allows us to give lower loan rates, on average, than other financial institutions. We have many members, who have previously been denied loans from larger institutions. We were able to give them loans they needed and at great rates. Of course we cannot approve every loan, but we make every attempt to be flexible and provide members an opportunity to qualify for the loan they need. Part of this ability to be flexible is that we review every loan application personally & locally, with care & compassion, rather than running the application through a computer algorithm to decide on someone's loan worthiness. During 2020, we provided local businesses with PPP loans that big banks would not be bothered with, saving hundreds of businesses in Arizona who would not have survived the Covid shut down. We provide quality jobs in Southern Arizona, and have increased our work force year over year since 1955. This is especially important to note when so many financial institutions are slashing their work forces and closing branches, leaving communities without local access to loans and other financial products. Almost 3,000 big bank branches closed in the US in 2021. We, however, remain strong and our branches remain open because we care about our communities, our members, our employees, and the services we provide. And finally, we take pride in helping our community charities when we can, either from monetary donations or volunteer work. We have branches in Douglas, Sierra Vista, Ft. Huachuca, Benson, and Green Valley/Sahuarita and each branch has funds to help out local charities in their immediate area. We love being a part of our Southern Arizona Community and strive to be a force for good. If we do find significant numbers of Sahuarita members needing in-person services on Saturdays, we will consider an adjustment to hours. Until that time, it is important to check hours of service before driving to the branch only to find that it is closed. You may want to consider an ASCU membership for 24/7 access to online & mobile banking. At this time (1/25/2022) lifetime membership is $5 with a $5 minimum balance, available for people who live, work, or worship in AZ counties of Cochise, Pima, Graham, Greenlee, & Santa Cruz. https://ascu.org/membership/eligibility/

This place never answers their phones and there's always a line and waiting period inside the bank. Nothing good to say about them.
Response from the owner
Hi Vicki, We are sorry we were not open for you during the holiday break. We believe in local business and local employment so we do not send calls to an overseas call center. Our branches and call center were closed November 25th, 26th and 27th as stated on our website "Locations and Hours" page, the website alert message, through our emailed newsletter, a message sent through our mobile banking SMS message, and through Facebook and Instagram. These messages and emails were posted 10 days in advance of the holiday so members could plan ahead. AVA, our automated teller, as well as online and mobile banking are always available 24/7. As with every business, wait times will vary depending on customer flow into the branch and the call center. We appreciate your feedback and will continue to serve our membership in the best way possible while striving to be a positive business in our communities. www. ascu.org/ascu-cares
