  After being heavily recommended to us by our realtor (although we had concerns about doing business with a bank we didn't know) we got our mortgage through Bank South when we moved from out of state. This was our second time buying a home. We, unfortunately, regret our decision to do business with Bank South. Upon our offer being accepted, we heard nothing for a week. Then, suddenly, they needed documents from us and needed them immediately. Several times, we'd go a few days without hearing from them, and then suddenly we'd get a call or email demanding some document as if we had forgotten it, when more commonly, we hadn't ever been told it existed. We spent the beginning of a vacation stuck in a hotel lobby trying to fax all the information they suddenly needed during one of these stunts. They were cordial, but didn't seem to understand our situation and honestly, didn't seem to care. We had originally wanted to use Navy Federal because of the loyalty. They are not one to sell of their mortgages, a fear we had expressed about BankSouth, or any local lender. We wanted to know who we were getting into a deal with. BankSouth held our mortgage for just one month before selling it to another lender. I know this may be common practice, but we had been told that BankSouth is not a 'common' bank. Unfortunately, we were misinformed.
