  I was always told growing up to bank with a local credit union because it will be better for you in the long run. Now I have not done anything in terms of regular banking, but my wife and I applied for a mortgage through them and were less than impressed with the mortgage team leader (Crystal). We were told to sign our application and not to pay attention to the listed interest rate because that wont really be set until their "investors" review the file. That rate was nowhere near competitive at the time. Fast Forward a few weeks and we have to re-submit things here and there but I suppose that is normal. Then the approval comes in at the rate that was on the application that we were told not to worry about. I was told I just did not understand how the market worked and that the national rates had gone up and it was just how it was going to be. This was BS. It was national news how rates had stayed trending down and now this rate was even less competitive. They also mainly wanted to put us in a FHA style product when we said we wanted a %5 down 25 year loan. She kept pushing this 0-3% down 30 year loan that we would get "free grant money" to make the down payment if we qualified. We felt kinda beat up so we just agreed to go that route. Then after 3 weeks we were told that either we didn't qualify or the money had run out and in a very matter o factly way were told that the new plan was %5 DOWN for 30 years. which showed they had never really listened to us. When I asked to speak to the bank manager twice about Crystal Howells incompetence the manager was never there. I was instead sent to give my complaints to someone who worked in another financing side of the bank. After a couple of attempts to win us back by lowering our rate by "allowing us" to buy a better rate we went somewhere else and got a rate that was MORE THAN a half percent lower and were given over $1,250 of credit towards closing. STAY AWAY FROM THE MORTGAGE SIDE OF BAYLANDS I CANNOT DECIDE IF THEY ARE CROOKS OR JUST ENTIRELY INCOMPETENT AT WHAT THEY DO. ZERO STARS IF POSSIBLE GEORGE MASON MORTGAGE IS MUCH BETTER ALL THE WAY AROUND
