      As a recent seller of my home, I was directed to Cypress Title of Lafayette to handle my closing. I was sorely disappointed with the outcome!! I received my closing statement with the financials. I specifically asked if the numbers were final and if no other fees would be assessed. It was clearly communicated that the numbers were final. The next day I had a monthly mortgage payment deducted from my bank account. I called the mortgage company and they said that the payoff received from the title company was short. Daily interest accrual had not been accounted for. It took me two days and numerous calls to the mortgage company to resolve the issue. In other words, I did part of the Cypress Title’s job for them. A later conversation with one of the principals of Cypress revealed that a clause in some of the paper work I signed excluded Cypress Title from any financial responsibility for any shortages that may have been missed. Sellers beware! You have options when closing your real estate matters.
