I don’t have enough space to explain my experience. It was several years ago that my husband, who was a disabled combat veteran, and I were referred to Norcom Mortgage for a VA loan, with a certificate of eligibility for a home loan. Our loan was given to John Vizard, supposedly a veterans loan specialist. Long story short, he gave us one pre-approved loan amount, only to find out after making an offer on a beautiful home, that we qualified for $100,000 less than he told us. Then he had the audacity to ask to borrow Monet from us since we weren’t getting the house. I reported him and his realtors license was revoked biphasic they division of banks. This all said, Kristen Walther took over loan process, which was time sensitive and we had to find another house. So we did find a house, but instead of a VA loan, we were given a USDA rural farmers home loan. Never heard of it…. The loan had been sol twice afterwards within a year. My husband committed suicide due to his injuries from combat service three years after purchase and because I have no VA loan, I’m finding it virtually impossible to save my home. So my opinion of Norcom Mortgage, and Kristen Walther is she didn’t help us appropriately, despite her agent’s crime, nor did she protect us by cementing a VA loan with no down payment. In the end we had to put over $9,000 down, losing our “ nest egg”. I’ve been here 9 years and as soon as Covid is over unless new computer provide me with loan mitigation relief, I will no longer be a homeowner. Do not use Norcom if you want honest company that’s got your back.

My husband and I did our research on banks and mortgage companies for the purchase of our new home. Norcom came highly recommended. Things were great at first - I will give credit where credit is due. Kristen was extremely responsive and helpful. She sent us several revised pre-approval letters that we needed as we put offer after offer in (hot buyers market so took a few tries to get an offer accepted) and even sent one on a Saturday which I really appreciated. The beginning of the underwriting process was pretty simple too. My husband and I turned in all the requested documents in less than 24 hours after they were requested & shortly thereafter received conditional approval for our loan. Norcom also sent cookies with a picture of our new house on them which was a nice touch. Fast forward a week or so, everything is going well...or so we thought. We were on our way to selling our old home and signed it over at our attorney’s office. The goal from day 1 was that we would sell our current home and close on our new home the same day. We knew this was a challenge but it seemed like everyone was on the same page and no one told us otherwise. On the ride home from our selling attorney’s office, I sent an email to check in with Amber, Kristen’s assistant, to let her know we signed the old house over and everything was on track, and asked if we were on track to close on the new house. I received back a one line email from Amber that simply said “we don’t have the appraisal, so you will not be closing november 30th.” This was news to us. This was less than a week before the 30th. Now again, we are reasonable people - we would have understood - IF SOMEONE BOTHERED TO TELL US. Seriously - I still get so angry thinking about the way communication just completely evaporated. We probably would have been stupidly waiting to go to our closing on Monday had I not initiated contact and checked in. Everything from that point on was a disaster. To Kristen’s credit, I do feel once she realized we were going to be stuck in a hotel with our infant during a pandemic, she kicked into high gear. I understand delays with COVID & the market. Kristen was great. Dealing with her assistant Amber not so much. We would get these one line, cold, borderline rude responses from her whenever we asked a question. She caused so much panic and grief and sometimes for no reason, and Kristen had to jump in and reassure us we were going to be ok. We ended up spending six nights in a hotel instead of the planned 2 nights. Norcom did give us lender credit for some of our expenses which was appreciated. Hotel was $100 a night and it was $150 a night for the movers to store our things, so understandably we were not thrilled. Eventually we were able to close and move in, but we never really got an apology from Norcom for the poor communication. With all the perfect reviews I was surprised that our experience was not 5 star. I just wanted to leave an honest review that laid out everything that happened. It wasn’t a terrible experience but it was not great. Again, completely understand that nothing is guaranteed when buying a house - but communication is REALLY important. We had to coordinate hotel stays, time off from work, childcare, movers, utilities...the list goes on. If we knew that “hey appraisals are not coming back very quick due to covid, don’t expect to close on the 30th” we could have possibly worked something out with our buyers to stay in our old house longer. In the end our closing happened, but if you go with Norcom I really recommend you stay on them, especially if you’re buying and selling. It’s hard to get someone on the phone because they are working remote like most of Americans - make them pick up the phone and talk to you. Don’t let them hide behind emails. Advocate for yourself.

      Response from the owner

We want to extend our apologies for our delayed reply in regards to your concerns. As we all have experienced, these are certainly unprecedented times due to the Covid-19-pandemic. The pandemic has and continues to have ever-changing circumstances and has caused so many unknowns. We did our best to accommodate and we felt terrible that we had no control over the 3rd party appraisal company. After contacting our AMC for updates, we were told that we should expect your appraisal any time and unfortunately unlike ourselves, they were under delivering. As a lender we are not allowed to have direct contact with the appraiser. We continually and diligently worked as quickly as possible dealing with 3rd parties that would not deliver under the pandemic, as they have in the past. In order to assist, we initiated and got a use and occupancy permit in place so that you could store your belongings in the garage, as well as providing you with a credit for your lodging expenses. We appreciate your feedback as we use this information to continually strive to update our systems to rectify any unforeseen issues in our efforts to serve you better and we abide by all pandemic related protocols and systems that are in place. Even though we are working in a remote work environment, our latest and most up to date technology is 2nd to none and allows us to perform on a vaster level and with even greater productivity. Our apologies for any communication misunderstandings and we hope that we can regain your business and trust. All of our very best wishes to you and your family in your new home now and for the years to come. Stay well and healthy!
