      My wife wanted to add me as an authorized user on her checking account (not a joint account). Bank of America tried to run my credit, which I have a security freeze on. I told them the regulations which say that it's only needed for CREDIT ACCOUNTS and LOANS. They refused to even do business with me because I wouldn't let them damage my credit. They make their own rules here and don't listen to the rules of the federal government.

While we are able to add an individual as an Authorized User for a Credit Card account, Checking or Savings accounts would not have an Authorized User option and therefore would need to be added as a Co-Owner to the account, which can require a soft credit review for verification purposes. However, if you are wanting to be added to a Checking/Savings account, but not as a Co-Owner, then the other way to be added to an existing Owner's account would be if you were their Power of Attorney with appropriate documentation.
