  I wasn’t a conventional buyer, but I was misled on several occasions by this company. I explained my income situation and provided documentation and was pre-approved for a loan. I was led to believe I was eligible for FHA and a housing credit due to my status, only to find out while I was making an offfer on a property that I was not eligible for the credit. I had to inquire about my new loan type since folks failed to communicate with me. You can imagine the inconvenience of learning this while placing my first offer on the home. After I wasn’t given clarity on the reason why I wasn’t eligible I did some research and the loan officer (Tasha) was short and dismissive when I showed her the resource about assisting with my income type. She mentioned her credentials and how she already knew what I was talking about, yet a few weeks prior she questioned my status as a student with fellowship stipend income, saying“you get paid to study?” Yes doctoral students do. Anyway, it wasn’t until I was under contract for a property that the loan company realized they don’t recognize my income type. After I got pre-proved with them about 3 months prior. Not only was my time wasted but it nearly jeopardized my chances of closing on a home. There was no apology, no accountability. Simply put, they weren’t equipped or couldn’t comprehend working with someone with my income type— which I can acknowledge isn’t the average home buyer. I would just hope they don’t waste someone else’s time and carry on such dismissive business practices.
