  I've been a member of Provident since graduating from college about 25 years ago. Their customer service is always excellent, particularly in their branches. I also take advantage of their super reward checking and I'm excited to try their new cash back Visa card with no annual fee. I keep finding new reasons to love Provident!

  Just joined a couple weeks ago and my card was frozen due to "unusual activity" because I was making lots of purchases to prepare for a camping trip. I spent 4 hours and 30 minutes on the phone talking to at least 9 different people including supervisors. 4 times the hold on my card was removed, and every single time the hold came back. No matter who I spoke to, I could not get access to my own money so I just gave up. I couldn't even order comfort food. This is the most frustrating, unpleasant experience I have ever had with any financial institution in my entire life.

  I have been a customer with them in SF since 2004. I had free checking. Then I moved away and used the account remotely. They switched me to a fee based account and it took years to resolve it. Eventually the fees were refunded. I closed my account. I'm happy about the happy ending but I would not suggest them to a friend.
