  WaFd is one of the least customer focused banks I've worked with. If I could move my mortgage I would. Automated mortgage payments were already inconvenient but when they updated their online software (11/21) they deleted all automatic transfer requests from external accounts to mortgage accounts. They provided no communication to me. Luckily I noticed before my account went overdue. When I called to figure out the problem they told me to find a different way to make my payment Instead of postponing any required payment until they could fix their system. Bank elsewhere if you can. Regarding the follow-up from WaFd suggesting it's a problem with the local branch. WaFd clearly didn't read my review or understand the problem. More evidence that they are not customer focused. This is a problem with WaFd online. I have limited options to leave reviews so I chose to add it to the closest branch. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, it did. This month I made a double payment on my mortgage. One that I set up through my external bank because WaFd couldn't. And one from the original WaFd transfer request that I was told was deleted. If you look in their web portal, it doesn't show up. So, this is a phantom transaction. I recommend banking elsewhere.

  This morning I used their ATM to withdraw some cash from my account. The ATM gave me a stack of $20s, so I walked inside and asked the bank if I could exchange the $20s for some $100s. The bank teller flipped through some policy pages and said she could only exchange up to $200 since I don't have an account with them. I was surprised by the limit and asked why. So the manager on duty walked over and said, "We don't launder money." Now I could understand him saying something about rewarding customers with accounts, etc, but was offended by the "laundering" reference. I said, "I just got this out of your ATM. I'm not laundering money, I would just prefer larger bills." He said, "That is laundering. We are not in the money exchange business." (WOW, okay....) So I went down the street to US Bank to consolidate my 20s into 100s and had no problems whatsoever. I guess I will be opening up accounts for my kids at US Bank, rather than Washington Federal...
